This is what happens when you pair up two compulsive and insane songwriters. Daniel Johnston is a "schizophrenic manic-depressive who believes he will be resurrected 100 years after his death to tour with the Beatles and the Butthole Surfers." On vocals is obsessive-compulsive eccentric Jad Fair who may have written more songs than anybody anywhere ever. On the surface the music may seem retarded, but their simplicity and emotional rawness conjure up other ideas. Both artists have been enormously influential on independent pop. I almost got hit by a bus on Mission Street when I saw Daniel Johnston's name on the marquee outside of Bruno's.
